Abstract Santana et al. (2022) described a new genus and species of fossil crab, Chronocancer camilosantanai, from carbonate concretions of the Romualdo Formation of the Araripe Sedimentary Basin. The journal in which the description appeared was published online only and the new name did not include a ZooBank registration number (LSID), as required for validation of new names in electronic-only publications. The present note serves to validate the name Chronocancer camilosantanai by fulfilling the ICZN conditions for nomenclatural availability. The date and authorship of the specific name, accordingly, are those of this note, not Santana et al. (2022).

Abstract Freshwater crabs are important components of aquatic ecosystems; however, their distributions are restricted because of characteristics of their life history, which hinder conservation strategies. Fredius reflexifrons is a widely distributed freshwater crab of the Amazon basin with relictual occurrences in small wetlands on the Planalto da Ibiapaba in Northeastern Brazil. Habitat degradation, destruction of forest patches, channeling of water bodies, and the use of land for legume cropping can seriously impact the species by leading to the extinction of its relic populations, which have limited distributions in the Área de Proteção Ambiental (APA; Environmental Protection Area) Bica do Ipu of the Planalto da Ibiapaba. The objectives of this study were to assess the distribution of F. reflexifrons in APA Bica do Ipu, identify the main impacts from anthropic activities, suggest potential actions to mitigate these impacts, besides providing recommendations for the expansion of the APA. Fredius reflexifrons was recorded in eleven sites in the Planalto da Ibiapaba, of which nine are new records and five are not located within the APA. These findings evidence the need of expanding the APA to encompass the newly known distribution of F. reflexifrons in order to assure its protection.

Abstract A new species of freshwater crab, Kingsleya parnaiba n. sp., collected in a tributary stream of the Parnaíba River Basin in Brazil, is described and illustrated. Kingsleya parnaiba n. sp. morphologically resembles Kingsleya attenboroughi Pinheiro and Santana, 2016 and Kingsleya gustavoi Magalhães, 2005, from which it can be separated by a set of characters of the first gonopod, chelipeds, and female abdomen.

RESUMO Esse trabalho caracterizou o zooplâncton e as variáveis ambientais do reservatório Canoas (Assaré, Ceará, Brasil) através de oito coletas consecutivas mensais, durante um período de estiagem intensa. Amostras de zooplâncton foram coletadas com arrastos verticais de rede de plâncton de 50 µm em três pontos distribuídos longitudinalmente. Foram encontradas cinco espécies: Brachionus calicyflorus Pallas, 1938 (Brachionidae: Rotifera), Diaphanosoma spinulosum Herbst, 1967 (Sididae: Cladocera), Thermocyclops decipiens Kiefer, 1929 e T. inversus Kiefer, 1936 (Cyclopoida: Copepoda), e Notodiaptomus cearensis Wright, 1936 (Calanoida: Copepoda). Thermocyclops decipiens apresentou a maior abundância relativa, seguido de N. cearensis e B. calicyflorus. A variação espacial e temporal da comunidade zooplanctônica pode ser explicada pela maioria das variáveis ambientais associadas a N. cearensis e B. calicyflorus, enquanto T. decipiens não se associou a nenhuma delas. A baixa riqueza de espécies e a dominância de T. decipiens e B. calicyflorus podem ser reflexos da elevada condição trófica do reservatório, em período de estiagem intensa, e N. cearensis está associado também com essas condições mais adversas.

ABSTRACT This work characterized the zooplankton and the environmental variables of the Canoas reservoir (Assaré, Ceará, Brazil) through eight consecutive monthly collections during a period of intense drought. Zooplankton samples were collected by vertical plots of 50 µm plankton net at three longitudinally distributed points. Five species were found: Brachionus calicyflorus Pallas, 1938 (Brachionidae: Rotifera), Diaphanosoma spinulosum Herbst, 1967 (Sididae: Cladocera), Thermocyclops decipiens Kiefer, 1929 and T. inversus Kiefer, 1936 (Cyclopoida: Copepoda), and Notodiaptomus cearensis Wright, 1936 (Calanoida: Copepoda). Thermocyclops decipiens had the highest relative abundance, followed by N. cearensis and B. calicyflorus. The spatial and temporal variation of the zooplankton community can be explained by most of the environmental variables associated with N. cearensis and B. calicyflorus, while T. decipiens was not associated with any of them. The low species richness and dominance of T. decipiens and B. calicyflorus may be a reflection of the high trophic condition of the reservoir during severe drought, and N. cearensis is also associated with these more adverse conditions.

ABSTRACT Occurrence of Dendrocephalus brasiliensis Pesta, 1921 (Crustacea, Anostraca) in the Caras river, southern Ceara, Brazil. The specimens were collected in March and April 2014. The new occurrence extends the distribution and update area of occupancy of the species, which is characterized by a specific habitat: temporary lakes.

Abstract Scyllarid lobsters are commonly found in tropical waters with scarce records from temperate zones in the southwestern Atlantic. Here, we provide new information about the distribution of Scyllarides deceptor Holthuis, 1963 along the Uruguayan continental shelf and include a new austral record for Scyllarus depressus (Smith, 1881).

O camarão fóssil Araripenaeus timidus n. gen. n. sp. é o primeiro Penaeoidea fóssil descrito para o Brasil. No presente trabalho ele é descrito, ilustrado e comparado com Paleomattea deliciosa, um Sergestoidea fóssil (Dendrobranchiata), previamente descrito para a mesma região. O material do Cretáceo inferior (Albiano) foi coletado na cidade Jardim, sul do estado do Ceará, no nível superior das concreções septárias da Formação Romualdo. Adicionalmente, um segundo espécimen de Kellnerius jamacaruensis é registrado para a mesma localidade na Bacia do Araripe.

The fossil shrimp Araripenaeus timidus n. gen. n. sp. is the first fossil Penaeoidea from Brazil. Here, we describe, illustrate and compare it with Paleomattea deliciosa, a fossil Sergestoidea (Dendrobranchiata) previously described from the same region. The material of the early Cretaceous (Albian) was collected in the town of Jardim, south of the state of Ceará, in the superior septarian concretion level of the Romualdo Formation. Additionally, a second specimen of Kellnerius jamacaruensis was found in the same site of the Araripe Basin.
